Recent scientific studies have revealed that neurological impairments can be caused by long term use of denture adhesives containing zinc. Zinc was used by the manufacturers of both Poligrip and Fixodent between 1996 and 2010.
Once this zinc infiltrates the body's blood stream it can attack the body's copper supply and result in the diagnosis of hypocupremia (copper deficiency) and/or hyperzincemia (high zinc).
However, we are evaluating these cases even in the absence of blood tests, as it is been our experience that oftentimes copper and zinc levels are not evaluated.
