America is a great nation. However, there are several flaws in our legal system. One that mainly sticks out is the Social Security System. A common complaint is the age requirement. You must be 61 years and 9 months before you can apply for Social Security. Although 61 is young today, many people have jobs that are physically and mentally damaging; therefore, it’s impossible for them to work into their 60’s.
If the age requirement is difficult for people in need of Social Security, imagine how difficult the Social Security disability application must be.
It can take up to 2 years for a person to make their way through the Social Security disability application process. 2 years is a long time, and it can be a very long time for people who are struggling with mental or physical health problems.
To make matters worse, the administration of the Social Security System has added 3 to 6 months’ time by requiring applicants to file for reconsideration.
Doesn’t this sound outrageous?
Since April 1, 2019 PA applicants whose application was denied must seek reconsideration. That doesn’t sound bad, right? Well, the truth is almost every application has been denied.
The administration has added the reconsideration step in the disability adjudication process hoping to give people another chance. However, applicants only have 60 days to apply again. If nothing has changed in 60 days, don’t except the outcome will. If you haven’t reapplied in 60 days, you will have to start all over again.
