When will it end?
When Joe Biden expressed in his address in April that he wanted to enforce gun control, it was with good reason.
Gun violence has taken over the United States. In 2021, we have already experienced 194 mass shootings (as of May 10th). President Biden claims, “Gun violence in this country is an epidemic and it’s an international embarrassment.”
He couldn’t be more correct. There have been approximately 10 mass shootings a week! Until measures are taken, every American is at risk.
Unfortunately, several Americans took the president’s speech regarding gun control as “threatening our 2nd amendment rights.” This time, that couldn’t be further from correct.
There are several different variations of gun control. And the good news for gun owners is—our president’s plans for gun control don’t come close to taking away our guns.
Right now, anyone can get a gun by purchasing a home kit and assembling it themselves. These are called ghost guns.
These kits are sold regularly without background checks. But the president doesn’t even want to take away “ghost guns”! What he wants is for them to be registered with a serial number and for background checks to be mandatory.
Terrorists, domestic abusers, extremists, and minors purchase these home kits daily.
Why are ghost guns so dangerous?
Here is an example: One late afternoon in August 2019, Andre Moye Jr.—a California Patrol officer—pulled over Aaron Luther. Luther, a 49-year-old felon, had no registration and an expired driver’s license.
Moye naturally decided to impound the vehicle. As he was filling out the paperwork, Luther grabbed a semi-automatic rifle from his truck and fatally shot Officer Moye.
Luther went on to shoot 100 more rounds before being shot by an officer who had arrived for backup. Moye was only 34.
Ghost guns are a growing problem in the US. Of course, that isn’t the only problem contributing to the shooting epidemic. Lack of training (especially for minors) is something we will discuss in our next post.
